MERIT AWARD / ROBERT MILLS RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

Lowcountry Wharf House

This house nestles a large program onto a challenging site without overwhelming the sense of place along this stretch of waterway.

Lowcountry Wharf House
DESCRIPTION

The challenge was to design a not-so-small home on a smallish .31 acre pie shaped lot with very close neighbors and views towards the creek. Restrictions on lot size, height, number of stories and floodplain limited the ability to employ recognizably vernacular massing and articulation. The exterior is unabashedly different and of its location—vertical, compact, efficient due to its smallish lot, with zoning allowing very low slope roofs at its maximum height.
