As a response to an ongoing refugee crisis the jury finds that this proposal holds refreshing ideas about connectivity, openness, and the integration of space and technology in addressing social issues.
Superficie-al (a play on the Spanish word for surface and the English, superficial) challenged the perception of media and technology as superficial conditions while highlighting their importance in the ongoing European refugee crisis. Focusing specifically on an existing plaza in Madrid, Spain, this proposal is about connecting and integrating immigrants and city residents through positive interactions that not only add to the existing digital, physical, and infrastructural networks, but also support a sustainable lifeline cycle for the building.
