Mass timber has become increasingly sought after as a sustainable design solution that also has substantial benefits to a developer’s bottom line. Therefore collaboration between public education, research institutions, design professionals and the construction industry has become imperative.
Through its Wood Utilization + Design Institute, for example, Clemson University provides education both to students and design professionals, while at the same time testing the limits of modern wood prefabrication applications. This session will explore unique benefits, design considerations and code solutions associated with mass timber products and systems while highlighting recent projects utilizing mass timber.
