The 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially began on June 1 and will end on November 30.

We have already seen three named storms, including Tropical Storm Arlene – only the second named storm on record to form in April. October of 2015 and 2016 both saw record storms hit the Carolinas, causing extensive damage to several communities along the coast and across the state. The AIA South Carolina Resilience Committee and Disaster Assistance Program have compiled the following resources to help our members prepare for the coming season.

Remember that disaster preparedness begins at home! For general preparation tips, evacuation maps, and other information, pick up a copy of the SC Emergency Management Division’s (SCEMD) 2017 Hurricane Guide. The guide is updated annually and distributed through all the coastal newspapers, statewide at visitors centers, and DMV offices. The PDF versions is available online through the following link:  2017 South Carolina Hurricane Guide
