Rehabilitation of the South Caroliniana Library

Task

This Adaptive Reuse/Preservation project included the renovation, restoration, and addition to the Ginhouse at Historic Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens in Charleston County. This circa 1840/50’s two-story solid brick masonry building formerly housed the cotton gin used in cotton production until the early 1900s. The adaptive reuse of the building included an education interpretive center, a small gift shop on the ground floor, and an events space on the second floor. A new attached support building includes stairs, an ADA-accessible elevator, restrooms, an entrance reception area, and a catering kitchen to support the event space.
