Carver Lyon Elementary School Language Immersion Addition

Task

A 21,000sf addition provides additional student enrollment capacity to accommodate a district-wide language immersion magnet program at an urban elementary school. The addition –designed specifically to support the school’s pedagogy of collaboration and flexible learning environments – reinterprets architectural elements and materials from the existing school to create a dignified identity grounded in the existing campus and context. The student-centered solution addresses immediate functional needs while also serving as a point of pride for the neighbors in the surrounding community.
