Rosewood Elementary School Library Addition & Renovation

When this 1930s elementary school outgrew its original library, a 4,500sf addition was conceived which allowed the school to reimagine the media center as a special place focused on gathering, collaborating, and inspiring.

INTRODUCTION

Program needs included a modern reading room with flexible furniture and soft seating, conference areas, maker space, and associated office and support areas. In response to the school’s administrators, staff, and students/ families’ desire to preserve the character of their existing historic school, the design team used the National Park Services’ Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings as the foundation of their work, even though this was not a requirement.
