HONOR AWARD / HISTORIC PRESERVATION
Quartermaster Dock House
The respect and care of the restoration to make this, an historic utilitarian structure, have a new life were simply masterful.
The respect and care of the restoration to make this, an historic utilitarian structure, have a new life were simply masterful.
The Quartermaster Dock House and Dock was built in the early 1900’s to serve as a drop-off point for military personnel, supplies and artillery as well as ferry riders traveling from downtown Charleston. After Fort Moultrie’s de-activation in 1947, the Quartermaster Dock House became state property and despite its historical significance on the National Register of Historic Places, the Dock House was severely neglected. When the Quartermaster Dock House and surrounding buildings became available for private auction in 2013, the Dock House was nearly falling into the creek.
