Please Join AIA Charleston for a morning meeting with coffee at the Clemson Design Center. Coffee and small bites at 8:30, Discussion to begin promptly at 9am.This meeting will be a Forum discussing strategies for Transportation in Charleston with a panel of community leaders. Mike Seekings, CARTA

Mike is serving a third term as Charleston City Councilman representing District 8. He is Chairman of CARTA, Chairman of the Sustainability Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Traffic and Transportation Committee, on the Board of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitor Bureau, the Gibbes Museum, and serves as Interim Race Director for the Cooper River Bridge Run. He is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston. Mike is a frequent speaker on all things Charleston and has been featured in many profiles of the community. He is the recipient of the prestigious Barrett Larrimore Award and has been named one of the 40 Most Influential People in the Charleston Region.

Mike is a magna cum laude graduate of Amherst College and received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Following law school, he clerked for former South Carolina Governor Donald S. Russell on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and thereafter worked for Latham & Watkins, in its Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the South Carolina, New York, and District of Columbia Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the District of South Carolina. He now runs his own firm, representing owners in complex construction defect litigation.

He is a former member of the South Carolina Bar’s House of Delegates and the executive committee of the Charleston Bar.

Mr. Seekings is a private pilot and one of Charleston’s most avid runners. He is married to Michele H. Seekings. Michele also has a passion for the outdoors.

Katie Zimmerman, Charleston Moves

Katie became Executive Director in April 2017 after eight years at the Coastal Conservation League, where she was the Air, Water and Public Health Program Director. Prior to the League, she was a contractor to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, where she worked on performance metrics, strategic planning and legislative tracking. Before NOAA, she led several research and outreach projects on environmental justice, community empowerment, green building and water quality in the Charleston area. Katie earned her M.S. in Environmental Studies and her B.A. in English with minors in Political Science and Environmental Studies, all from the College of Charleston. Katie resides in West Ashley, is an avid bicycle commuter, and has not driven a motor vehicle since 2007.

John Lambert, City of Charleston Mobility Planner

Originally from Spartanburg, John Lambert, the City’s Mobility Planner, has 6 years of local and regional transportation planning experience with a focus on enhancing the multimodal transportation network. An avid cyclist and lifelong Celtics fan, John loves being out on the water with his dog, Charlie.
