AIA South Carolina is monitoring Hurricane Irma and is in close contact with the South Carolina State Guard in preparations for providing volunteer building safety assessments after the hurricane passes.
If you are a SAP trained architect and have not yet received communication from the SCSG Engineering Command (the unit through which safety assessments are done) please contact Brent Theiling at brent.theiling@sg.sc.gov or Adrienne Montare at adrienne@aiasc.org.
AIA National has resources and guidelines available to help you prepare. You can find this information on the AIA Disaster Assistance website.
Below are more resources to help with disaster preparedness.
- The 3rd Edition of the Disaster Assistance Handbook has had a substantial amount of updates made to it and contains resources for preparing for and responding to disasters.
- AIA partner, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, provides a Board Up Checklist (pdf download) for guidance on how to temporarily protect your homes and buildings ahead of a hurricane.
- The National Weather Service has provided a Hurricane Preparation List that has a full to-do list to prepare you and your family in the days before the storm hits.
